2025 NORTHEAST BEEF PRODUCER WORKSHOP UNITES PRODUCERS FOR LEARNING AND NETWORKING IN CAMBRIDGE, VT

Cambridge, VT – The 2025 Northeast Beef Producer Workshop, hosted by the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (NEBPI), a subcontractor to the Beef Checkoff, welcomed cattle producers from five states across the region for a robust two-day event, June 6–7, focused on strengthening the regional beef industry through education, collaboration, and strategic marketing.

The event was hosted in collaboration with the National Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program, Phoenix Feeds and Nutrition, and the Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement program.

The workshop kicked off Friday at Boyden Farm with a hands-on Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) training and farm tour led by Hannah Walters, PA State BQA Coordinator, and Dr. Marissa Hake, DVM. Attendees explored best practices in cattle care and management, followed by an evening networking dinner at The Barn at Boyden Farm, where producers connected over a beef-centered meal in a scenic Vermont setting.

Saturday’s sessions included regional consumer insights from NEBPI Director of Marketing Kaitlyn Swope, who provided an overview of the Beef Checkoff’s regional work. Participants then heard findings from the recent Northeast Consumer Dashboard Survey, dove into preconditioning calves and feeding for quality, and learned how to better connect with local consumers during the “Beef with a Story” session led by veterinarian, beef producer, and influencer Dr. Marissa Hake, DVM.

"This workshop reflects one of our program’s strategic initiatives —to equip producers with practical tools and a strong sense of community as we work together to build consumer trust and elevate demand for beef in the Northeast," said Kaitlyn Swope, NEBPI Director of Marketing.

"Thank you for the great Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) workshop and event. The keynote speaker was very insightful and aligned well to the challenges we all face as producers in our direct-to-consumer brands. I especially enjoyed the conversations around sustainability and its reach beyond the typical land management and business aspects, but a broader discussion on the families and businesses that buying local extends to. Overall, a great event with insights and perspective as we all run similar but different operations!" said Russ Whisler, Flying C Wagyu.

The Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative, a subcontractor to the national Beef Checkoff, is proud to support the advancement of beef producers across the region through meaningful, producer-focused programming.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The Checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States may retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national Checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
