back to school and fueled by beef

August is the ‘Back to School’ month for students of all ages preparing for another new year of learning.  Fourth-year veterinary student, Amanda Logan-Wesley is juggling her own back to school preparations as well as her own fitness goals as an athlete.  As a veterinary student planning on working with food animals, she spends a lot of her time focusing on maintaining animal health.  Amanda is attending the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and she and her husband reside in Blacksburg, VA.

Amanda’s passion for running (and all sports) began in grade school when she joined the school track team.  In college, she ran cross country and track and field and achieved the ability to run a mile in under 6 minutes!  Amanda’s goal is to race in more track meets and run a personal best in a 5K road race.

It’s not all about physical fitness for Amanda, however.  She shares, “I love how my mind goes empty during a run. It is the best way to unwind after a tough day! Also, the adrenaline rush during a race is amazing. This definitely still holds true. Some days it is tough to get my runs in due to some hectic days on clinical rotations, but after my run I always feel great! I am proud of myself for keeping up with my running!”

Amanda is a member of the Northeast Team Beef program and knows first-hand how beef helps her body build and maintain muscle mass and recover after long endurance activities.
