Fall into Crockpot Season with BEEF
Recipe Contest


Date: Contest opens October 22 - November 11 (3 weeks)
         Winners Announced November 20-21st

Overview: Northeast consumers are invited to enter a beef slow cooker recipe in the "FALL into Crockpot Season with BEEF" contest. The goal is to promote family meal time with a nutrient dense and delicious protein like beef. This contest aims to showcase the culinary talent of home chefs, millennial parents and northeast foodies alike. 

Criteria: All recipes must include a minimum 3-oz of beef per serving size. The selected beef cut needs to be prepared, at least in part, in a slow cooker to meet the recipe entry criteria. This could be any Crock-Pot cooker, any other branded slow cooker or the Instant Pot. The recipes can be breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizer or snack. Entry submissions will be completed in two rounds detailed below:

Round 1: Entries will be collected on the Northern Virginia Housewives blog post announcing the contest through the sharing of your favorite beef slow cooker recipe. Contestants will be asked to submit the link or copy of the recipe to the Northern Virginia Housewives blogging group. Entrants will be required to tag or cite the proper recipe author, via a blog/website link, if the recipe was not created by the contestant. Contest judges will select 30 finalists to advance to round 2 of the contest. Extra points will be awarded for original recipes.

Round 2: Once the 30 finalists are selected, each will be asked to cook/create the recipe they selected to be eligible for contest prizes. Contestants must submit an original photo once the recipe has been created for judges to review. All finalists will be asked to complete a short survey and sign an affidavit the photo is an original.

To be eligible:

  1. Any home chef, millennial mom or northeast foodie who enjoys the art of cooking and aims to feed their families a delicious and nutrient dense beef meal!
  2. Entrants must reside in one the these northeast states: New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., or Virginia. 
  3. All recipes must include a minimum 3-oz of beef per serving.
  4. The majority (50% or more) of the recipe needs to be prepared in a slow cooker. This could be any Crock-Pot cooker, any other branded slow cooker or an Instant Pot. The recipes can be breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks.
  5. The winners are required to sign an affidavit that the recipe is an original.
  6. The recipe winners will be notified by the email address on the submission form. Upon notice the winner has 3 days to respond with a valid mailing address to receive the prize, or the prize will be forfeited and a new winner will be picked.
  7. All submitted recipes and photographs can be used by the Beef Checkoff programs for promotion and education.

Judging Criteria: The Judges' Pick criteria are: Taste 50%, Ease of Preparation 30%, Creativity 10% and Appearance 10%. Selected judges will award a grand prize and runner-up. The People's Choice Criteria are: the recipe post which receives the most 'votes' will be the grand prize People's Choice winner; the recipe post that receives the second most 'votes' will be the runner-up. Prizes: Four winners total: Judges' Pick grand and runner-up and People's Choice grand and runner-up. The Grand Prize Judges' Pick winner will receive a prize valued up to $600 including an Omaha Steak gift card, a slow cooker or Instant Pot (model of winners choice) and recognition opportunities on social media. Judges' Pick runner-up will receive a $250 Omaha Steak gift card as the honorary mention. The People's Choice winner receives a $500 Omaha Steak gift card and recognition opportunities on social media. One People's Choice runner-up receives a $250 Omaha Steak gift card as the honorary mention.
